How it Works: 3 Simple Steps to Start Counselling
Deciding on starting counselling is a significant decision, and it is natural to want a clear map of the journey ahead. At Noor Counselling, I have simplified the process into three straightforward stages to ensure your experience of beginning therapy – whether online or in-person in South West London – is as smooth as possible. My goal as a counsellor is to help you move toward internal clarity through a tailored, integrative approach.
1. Reach Out for Your Free Introductory Call
The first of our 3 simple steps to starting counselling is a free, 15-minute introductory consultation. This is a gentle, no-pressure space for us to briefly connect and discuss what is currently bringing you to seek support. During this call, we can discuss any specific anxieties you may have about the process or what to expect in our first meeting. It is an opportunity for you to ask questions about my approach and for us to see if we feel like a good fit before you commit to a full session.
2. Book Your Initial Session
Once we have had our introductory chat and you feel ready to proceed with counselling, you can book your first full 50-minute session. You can do this directly through the secure Noor Counselling client portal at a time that suits your lifestyle. In this initial meeting, we begin the work of building a foundation where you can speak your truth, allowing us to identify the areas where you most need support. This step is about ensuring you feel comfortable and informed as you begin your therapeutic journey.
3. Attend Weekly Sessions and Find Your Rhythm
The final step is establishing a consistent rhythm for your healing. Consistency is a vital element of the therapeutic process, and I will hold a specific time for you each week. Whether we work together online or meet in my Wimbledon or Kingston rooms, we will regularly review your progress. This ongoing commitment allows us to dive deeper into your internal landscape, ensuring that therapy leads to sustainable growth and emotional resilience for you.
Why a Confidential Space Matters
When you are starting counselling, having a confidential space is often the most important factor in your healing. This is a professional environment where your privacy is treated with the utmost respect, allowing you to explore thoughts and feelings that might feel too difficult to share elsewhere.
Choosing a practitioner who understands the complexities of heritage and family nuance within this confidential space is vital. I work in accordance with professional ethical frameworks to ensure our sessions are safe and secure. In our work together, your faith and cultural roots are honoured as essential parts of your story that we will explore with sensitivity and care.
My Therapeutic Approach: How I Work
As an integrative counsellor, I draw from several therapeutic theories to suit your unique lived experience. My work is deeply rooted in providing a confidential space for those navigating the nuances of cultural identity and family heritage.
- Person-Centred Foundation: I believe that you are the expert on your own life. My approach is fundamentally person-centred, meaning I provide a non-judgemental and empathic environment where you lead the way, and I walk alongside you.
- Internal Family Systems (IFS): We use “parts work” to understand the different aspects of your personality—such as the part of you that feels the weight of family expectations versus the part that seeks independence.
- Trauma-Informed & Somatic Awareness: We recognise that trauma and stress are often stored physically in the body. By being trauma-informed and incorporating gentle somatic movements, we work safely to find a sense of physical and emotional calm without overwhelming your system.
- CBT Elements: Where appropriate, we may use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) tools to help you identify patterns in your thoughts and behaviours, providing practical strategies for managing daily challenges.
- Faith and Heritage: We explore your history and faith with deep respect, ensuring you never have to “translate” your background or justify your values during our sessions.
